| The unveiling ceremony: 3 May 1922 |
One of them is the colourfully painted rotunda, built in 1942 and giving access to the deep-level bomb shelters required in World War 2.
And the other is the 1922 clock tower cenotaph commemorating the names of 574 local men who died in the First World War. This building is unique - there is simply no other memorial building like it in the area - and it defines Stockwell.
The memorial is now in need of care and attention and it needs your help.
The names carved into the Portland stone panels are fading. Some are almost unreadable.
We must press Lambeth to act now before the building falls into further disrepair. The names on the memorial were put forward after the war by friends, family and neighbours of those who lost their lives in the bloodiest war in history. Behind each and every name is a man, and every man had a story. And in many cases, the name carved at Stockwell is the only thing left.
