South London Press also carries a story (page 18) on the protest at the Tate Library, South Lambeth Road. A bout of staff sickness forced it to close early and without notice recently. It's sad that, judging from the picture, only six people showed up for the protest, at least three of them councillors.

I think this is because people have recognised that this stunt is being pulled off purely fro political reasons not because the councillors care about the library. Typical opposition politicians: their protest will do nothing to actually improve matters. Instead they should be working to increase Lambeth's library services budget so that more staff can be employed.
At the same time it is perhaps inevitable that on very rare occasions there might not be enough staff to run services such as libraries where there are only a few people on duty
Agree. All provision for libraries in this borough are poor. I am currently very concerned about state of Minet Road archive (damp basement, yes, with mould and that's where they store stuff, broken equipment, bad chairs) - all totally shocking. Staff need training in customer management.
