Canton Arms to become Anchor and Hope?
I have heard a rumour that the Canton Arms, South Lambeth Road, London SW8 has been acquired by the Anchor and Hope (The Cut, SE1). For anyone who doesn't know this wonderful pub it's a very well reviewed gastro pub - and the food is extremely brilliant.

Wow. That'd be fantastic news.
What happened to the Canton Arms? It just spontaneously... closed. Any story?
I emailed the Anchor and Hope to see if they would confirm or deny. No response yet.
Another great Stockwell boozer,becomes a yuppy gastro-pub..yukk!!
Slowly but surely, there will be no "old Stockwell" left on the traditional pub front!
I would rather have a branch of the Anchor and Hope than "old Stockwell" and I've lived here for 40 years.
If you want "old Stockwell" I recommend The Grosvenor - I was rather taken by its untouched, unmodernised charm. A proper boozer.
But I will be visiting the Anchor & Hope Stockwell (if that's what it is) as well...

Thank you for commenting. All comments are moderated so it may be a short while before you see your comment on the blog. I will keep back some comments relating to the current Seyi murder trial until it is over, as it is not appropriate to assume guilt until we have a guilty verdict. I know this is painful to some people who have taken the trouble to comment, but I ask you to be patient.
