As I went by on the bus this morning just after 8:30am I saw the aftermath of a major incident in Harleyford Street just by Oval station. I saw several fire engines, police vehicles and ambulances. A large truck. Sainsbury's shopping bags. [The following section of the post has been amended to include up-to-date information] A person on the floor on a stretcher. They were unfurling blue screens around the scene.
Obviously our hearts go out the victim.
I will post more details as I find them.

It wasnt a man, its a lady. And she was on a bike and the truck didn't see her. Very Very Sad
Saw it too (after it happened - got there at 8.45)
poor truck driver was so shocked
can just say the same ... my heart goes out to the people involved and their families etc.
I passed by at 8.15 or so and heard the brakes of the lorry and a short scream. The cyclist was under the lorry when I turned round but appeared to be moving. The lorry was presumably turning with the lights past the tube station and did not see the cyclist on the blind side.
Also in South Island Place a man had jumped to his death this same morning from the Tower block top floor. That was being dealt with by police and fire brigade.
Not a good start to the week for any one of us.
If anyone actually saw this fatal incident occur, I urge you to please contact the police as soon as possible and give a statement whilst it is still fresh in your mind.
The lorry driver had been drinking!
How do you know this? Did you see the results of the breathalyser? Are you a policeman?
Well i was on the 436 heading in that direction and saw they had been an accident all i know was someone was under a lorry air ambulance quickly on the scene around 8.45am i headed back past around 11am no blue screen around and lorry driver sat in lorry so i dont think he would of been sat there a few hours later if he had been DRINKING please think of the poor victim and her/his family when posting nonsense!!
Yes, very well said. It was a shocking incident, so dreadful for the victim and her family, and no one is helped by spurious, flippant comments. Maybe I should not have let this one through but I did so in order that it could be shot down.
the acident today at harleyford street was very sad , my heart goes out for he women involed in the accident and her family .
The person in the Lorry at 11 was a police vehicle examiner.
Does anyone know if the victim is ok ? i hav trying to see via the news but heard nothing.
Unfortunately the young women died. My flatmate passed by round 11am when they carried the corp away.
I am the victims cousin and I can confirm that she died this morning. Today is a very sad day and I thank those for their sympathy. Catriona you will be missed greatly. XXX
I'm afraid to say she died this morning. Family and friends in shock and mourning.
Christian please pass our condolances to the family
Christian. My sympathies go to you and your family. This is an awful and unnecessary tradegy.

It was my partner who was driving the Lorry. He is absolutely traumatised. Our sympathies go the the family, such a tragic accident. Our lives have been changed forever.
The driver, my partner, had not been drinking. It was just after 8 in the morning!! He is in deep shock a terrible terrible accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. Our lives will never be the same again.
I am a friend of the woman who died, Catriona. She was a lovely woman and wonderful wife to Anish. I cant believe what has happened to them and their family, its a tradegy. Sympathies to eveyyone involved with this terrible terrible accident and god bless their family through these difficult times
When will local councils and the Mayor notice that the metal railings are as much to blame as anything.
There was a woman trpped against them on London Wall a while ago and this looks the same. So sad.
This is so so sad for everyone. Catriona's family may wish to contact www.roadpeace.org.uk they can help with advice and the experience of people who have been there before.
Having seen the photos in the London Paper I don't think the railings were a factor in this tragedy.
a heavy drinking session at night can still mean you're over the limit the next morning!!
www.ghostbikes.org - my thoughts go out to all family and friends x
I can only imagine that the driver overtook the cyclist then turned left. I understand the blind spot mirror problem, but surely the driver would have seen the cyclist out of his front window screen when he overtook her prior to turning left?
i dont know maybe the situation wasnt that way and she tried to overtake him on the left while he was pulling away from the lights or something.
I was with her just after the accident on the road and tried to help her as I could. PLease I really want to be in the funeral if it's possible.. Christian for example can you please contact me: lefevresteph@hotmail.fr
It is very important for me.
I'm so sorry for all your family
Just a thought about the above comment, should Christian no longer be following these comments - have you tried asking the police to put you in touch with Catriona's family?
Yes I did it. I'm now waiting that they call me back but I'm afraid that they make it too late
dont worry, i've let someone know about the post about going to the funeral.
Thank you for reassuring us. When is the funeral? I am sure many people would like to take some time out for special thoughts/prayers for Catriona's friends and family at that time. I think the whole neighbourhood is distressed for them and sends sympathies.
Such a sad day. I saw all the commotion, but didn't realise what happened until the other day. As a cyclist myself, this sort of tragedy really frightens me. When is Boris going to take the bike lane and driver awareness issues more seriously?
I was speaking to this lady before she died... this is really sad I thought she would be ok. I'm really sad for her family
I worked alongside Catriona in the City a few years back and just found out today about her death. She was a fantastic person, generous, kind-hearted and so cheerful. She will be truly missed and my condolences go out to her and her family.
i saw it to it was scary i was there from the start i was crosing the road and then i turned to see if there is a ca comin when i turned i saw the woman n the truck was right behind her and than bam the truck hit her and went over her sholder i think jus the first wheel but she was under the truck and then they had to get her naked why would they do that infront of children by the way im jus 13 and i saw it
ghanaiankid - If you have not already done so, I urge you to witness this with the police. It could make all the difference to Catriona's husband, family and friends and to the lorry driver also. They all deserve to have the truth told. Call 020 8941 9011. BTW I think it is easier for the medics to treat a victim if the clothes don't get in the way. Preserving life is more important than preserving modesty.
My condolences, I passed by just as the police arrived and was surprised that they started to ask potential witnesses to move on, instead of taking statements. Very sad indeed, may her soul rest in eternal peace.
On behalf of Anish and the rest of Cat's family and friends, of which she had many, thanks to Stockwell News for your kind donation to Cat's charity. It is much appreciated. Her funeral is tomorrow and your condolences are also appreciated. Can I just urge ghanaiankid and anyone else who saw exactly what happened to make contact with the police? Thanks. Cat was a gentle, kind, smart, fun, family-oriented, generous-hearted person with the most amazing smile. We are all missing her dreadfully.
I'm desperately sorry about your loss. As a cyclist in London, I am often angered by some of the bad driving and poor cycling lanes and facilities we have to deal with daily, but the death of a fellow cyclist shakes one to the core.
I hope you find comfort in the postings on Londonfgss and Bikeradar; Catriona will never be forgotten, even though most of us on these sites have never met her. God bless.
To Catriona's husband, family and friends on the day of her funeral - thinking of you especially today and wishing you strength for the difficult times.
As the partner of the driver of the lorry that was involved in this accident I would also like to ask anyone who witnessed this terrible accident to contact the police. It is important for all parties involved to know and understand how it happened and also to educate drivers, cyclists and pedestrians how dangerous the roads are, however careful. We are thinking of Catrionas family on this sad day. God Bless
I cycle the same route every morning and think about the poor girl and her family as I pass the Oval, it certainly has made me more aware of the dangers, my thoughts go out to her family and friends I hope you can get on with your lives, how terribly sad.
My name is Anish Patel and I am the husband of Catriona . On Monday 29th June at around 08.20, Catriona died as a result of a collision with a green Tipper lorry at Kennington Park Road, at the junction with Harleyford Street. I would like to make a personal appeal for anyone who was in the Oval area that morning , who saw Catriona or the tipper, to come forward as a potential witness. Even if you did not see the incident directly, you may still have useful information on the lead up to, or aftermath of the incident. So, please, I urge you to come forward. Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, may be crucial to the case. I and the entire family would like to understand what happened on that day and you may have seen something that is relevant. Please contact the Collision Investigation Unit Witness Line on 020 8941 9011 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you have any information. Many thanks, Anish.
