I work round the corner from this park and am sitting in the office now having just come in. There is no outwardly obvious police presence between Stockwell tube and the part of Clapham Road which we're on, and probably most of the people I passed on their way into the tube have no idea this happenned last night.
I live on Lansdowne Green, and there's a cordon..they're taking people's names and addresses as they leave.
From the BBC coverage it looks more like the police had closed off the stretch of Wandsworth Road along the side of the Lansdowne Green estate. Does anyone know what happened down there? The Standard is talking about "trails of blood throughout the neighbourhood," although as it's the Standard I'm taking it with a pinch of salt...
I was there just now the cordon is around most of the park but there is just one bored looking policeman and a group of lads playing football in the courts. Not as dramatic as the sensationalist press would have everyone believe. A very sad place and obviously very quiet though.
There is lots of blood stretching all the way down the Wandsworth Road. It's horrible to see! The whole of Lansdowne road is closed off too and there's quite a lot of activity from what I can see - forensics, police...It's just really sad
There's actually a lot more police down there, if you're observant enough. Forensics team were rooting through bins and such as I came in. No idea if the paper reports of '30 youth-strong fight' is true or not, but it doesn't matter, it turned out horribly either way - how more dramatic do you want it to be? The aftermath of real crime doesn't necessarily look all 'sensational' and sexed up, it's a grim and quiet affair.
Heart goes out to the families, who've apparently yet to be formally informed - imagine having to receive news like that.
I live in stockwell on Sudbury Court and me and my girlfriend we heard yesterday one woman..she was terrible shouting..The first we did not know whats happend, but I never heard something like that in my life..I live from Larkhall park just 10 seconds walk..everything is closed, police is everywhere..I could get home just with my proof (driving license)
Basically what happened last night was that there was 30 or so kids-adults in two gangs. O12 and All bout money. They apparently used mobiles to arrange this. Then they were at the park, i have heard rumours it was a water fight that got out of control but whatever it was, lots of kids got minor stab wounds. one had to be admitted to hospital but now is in a stable condition and one is dead, he died by a stab wound to the head. i heard the dead boys sister screaming down the street,"I can't believe it, I only saw him this morning". there was about six or seven kids with her, mostly girls, and they ran down lansdown way crying and screaming there hearts out. Some were kicking down th road work barriers and then two of them broke into a fight, but they were so distressed. The police car came and the police ran down the road to comfort the kids. Then they got tooken away into the cars. there was extensive blood down wandsworth road. i was in the park an hour before this incident and i did see a couple of boys with dogs, and apparently a dog had its throat slit. they have corderned off the road, from lansdown way to wandsworth road, and they've corderned off the park. it was horrific. there's police men and women patrolling, and forensics searching the bins and bushes for the weapons. The police people won't let anyone pass who doeesn't live in the houses that have been cordened off, they ask for name and address. its pretty quiet and there's flowers near the park area. I found this event very upsetting.
I honestly don't know where all this stuff was, all I can say is it wasnt around the park at about 130pm when I wandered around yesterday.
At about 430 pm I did however see the regular group of lads who hang out outside Stockwell Cafe on Clapham Road get rounded up and searched by a van load of police. I dont think they were expecting it and there were quite a lot of police. Maybe it was unconnected but you can't help thinking a lot of collars were getting felt in the search for who might have been involved.
I'm only a daily visitor to the area, my sincere sympathies to those affected.
I don't think water fights include knives, and I'm pretty sure those local lads were expecting it.
probably. Anyway I was down near the park again today and saw what I assumed were forensic teams lifting up drain covers and sifting through the stuff down there, presumably for stuff that might have been thrown away
look yeah the person that died was dear to all of us that knew him i send my sympathy to his family
this all started on saturday why did the police not stop them ? its only when its toolate then they take action . my heart goes out to all the familes .
whatz the boy dat died name ?
His name was Oluwaseyi Christopher Sunday Ogunyemi, known to his friends as Seyi.
I live in lansdowne Green and throughout the estate theres blood everywer...i dont understand if seyi died in the allyway of the park then how is there blood all over the estate. way more kids got stabbed then what the news paper are mentioning.
this couldnt of started off from a waterfight since boys from the upper part of stockwell are not allowed to mix with our boys...it just doesnt happen. stockwel garden boys came down to make trouble or else they wouldnt of come done in the first place.
they new what was coming their way and they didnt care if it was going to be done in front of lil kids or who ever wanted to see.
lark hall park at that time is always busy, there football team training and not forgetting the cafe thats right inside the park.
I've lived in Stockwell all my life and back in the day, kids from Studley, Landsdowne, Stockwell Gardens and 'the flats' used to mix and LOOK OUT FOR EACH OTHER. OK not everyone was best firends and you had your own little group but that was life. As a mum of teenagers watching this senseless madness, breaks my heart. Most of these kids went to school together for crying out loud, played football in the playground. Please please please, put down your knives and start living life how it's meant to be. Would you rather have a cuddle from your mum or have her bring flowers to your grave? I know alot of you boys and girls and you've ALL got the ability to do well. If you feel the need to fight, join the forces and fight the enemy, if you die during battle at least your family can feel proud of their hero, but to die on the street undignified and alone, it just don't make sense. I know Seyi's mum, and my heart goes out to the whole family. Seyi, I hope you find in Heaven what you couldn't find here. Rest In Peace.
everyone on this needs to stop listening to the news all the time.....the fight was not arranged it didnt start from no sort of water fight and the stockwell garden boys did not come down and start trouble and the crews are not called that so stop listening to the rumours from the press please because all these lies are just upsetting.
